Incendies (2010)
A film that lingers. Based on the play by Wajdi Mouawad, Denis Villeneuve directs with patience and delicate precision. Almost every scene feels bled from the kind of dream more real that reality. Watching Incendies is a beautiful reminder of everything a film could be.
Apocalypto (2006)
A film that seems a miracle. Set in the backdrop of late Mayan civilization, we are placed almost immediately on a high stakes, frenetic, and redemptive journey: man versus nature versus the nature of man. A stunning achievement.
Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
A deeply serious depiction of modern family disfunction, all while never taking itself too seriously.
A warm but unsettling reminder that sharing the burden of another's pain is perhaps the only way to feel less alone.
Underappreciated Films
Film number one I have not seen (or even heard of) and film number two is one of Mel’s very best. Good selection here.
